Manteca means lard in Spanish

They use to have a very smelly Sprekels sugar plant there that fortunately was closed and torn down. Now they're home to a large Base Outlet. Very good trade!

When I was in high school we used to go there for the Manteca Waterslides. I just remember it being a pretty long haul in those days.

Shoot, I'd go there on occasion and I thought it took forever. And I'm only about a little over an hour away!

I've past by there once. But the name Manteca is better then Garrapata State Park. If you take one of the "r" away from the name, garapata in Spanish means blood sucking tick. So it's almost like saying let's go to the Blood Sucking Tick Park kids, YAY!!!

are you going to move again?

And speaking from my perspective of a client ~1 yr ago, absolutely zero chance I would have driven out there for a consult. Not a chance in hell.

In fact, you might even have been lumped into the same "not local" category that a photographer from SLO/LA/Sacramento would be.

I played a concert there on tour once. Not sure who routed our tour, but I'm pretty sure I'm still pissed about it. I think three people came to the show.

I'm about an hour or hour and a 1/2 south.

I do most of my consultations via Skype. But having the ability to bring the clients over for their consultations might make it easier for up-sales.

*I'm not moving anywhere anytime soon. Just pondering if Manteca might be a good place to live because it's home prices are so low compared to the Bay Area.

The prices are low, because inspite of being in the Bay Area, Manteca seems miles away from everything and everywhere people want.

I'm interested to hear what other photographers who live out in the cuts have to say about selling to their clients while living far away from them.
