Thanks, i have no problem to get the best sharpness of 50L at any distance as long i don't rely on 5D2 AFed alone. With Eg-S help... 50L sharpness can go very very far with it.

You can see in real life: wide open dof of most fast lens does not work/look the same way that has been shown in some review sites. Another word, their MTF 2D charts does not help much at all
I have no problem with mine using AF on the 5D2 at -6 MA correction. Works for near and far.
I don't want to use the Eg-S screen, as I use a few slower lenses that would look extremely dark with it.
NIH23 -- I think it is worth it. The wider aperture "look" can't be matched by the 1.4. But if you are using mostly 2.8 and smaller, the 1.4 is about the same or better IQ. On the practical side, the 1.2L has a better, more robust USM motor.

Your best focal plan is 1/3 dof and it can be easily missed @ f1.2 with cam AF. I use Eg-S focussing screen to monitor and correct the final focal plan.
