I had one briefly. It sort of felt like a one trick pony, at least when it came to using it as a key light. If I did complex studio lighting more often it might be nice to use as on-axis fill (ala Dan Winters) but I just don't do enough of that to justify it.
Anyhow, here's a snapshot of my son after basketball practice with it as key light with the traditional ring flash look.
I have the Elinchrom RF3000 ringflash, but it's mostly relegated to specialty shots. In all honesty a ringflash is more of a novelty flash. You'll get more use out of a regular softbox/monolight.
Elinchrom doesn't make any modifiers for their ringflash. But luckily all the Hensel ones fit the Elinchrom version. But you'd need a Ranger Pack to power the ringflash.
