I just dont see G+ becoming the social hangout spot for the masses. Most of the people on there are more tech savvy individuals. While it's not a bad thing to be setup on G+, I don't see it generating any more business than facebook will be doing in its current state. Facebook is where the people are at, and where they are sharing their social interactions...G+ would require a lot of people to reinvent how they socially interact online and that is going to take time. It's a long term investment, not a short term stop-gap for marketing.

I agree with Spencer at the moment. There is a really large community of active photographers on G+ but to the average person that is a total surprise to hear. Ask the average person on FB what they think of G+ and they'll probably say that they don't use it much because no one's there.

Personally I think the user experience is superior to FB even as FB has ripped off a bunch of G+ looks and features. It could pick up momentum over time but at the moment it doesn't seem that viable for business.

I am on google + and I really like the iPad interface and the compression is better at least to my eye which leads toward more realistic photo representation

I'm on G+. Admittedly I am not as active there as opposed to FB due to obvious reasons. If anything I will not count out Google.

Besides it's not a bad idea to have one foot at another door opening per se.

I'm just building a foundation now. I do agree with Spencer, but I see many friends creating G+ accounts/pages in recent weeks at the same time. I think FB is a ticking time bomb. I've even questioned if the business page is worth having any longer. I'm highly considering just using my personal page instead.

Photographers complaining that someone's actually charging for a service instead of continuing to give it away for free.

There's a paradox in there.

It's more rewarding to think in terms of how to profit off of FB rather than what it costs, because everything that pays one's bills has to do with ROI, not costs.

I think the fiasco is more about two distinct, fundamental principles.

1. Facebook has provided and marketed it's service as "free" for nearly a decade, and to begin charging just because they can is tasteless and unprofessional.
2. Our friends, fans, clients, or whatever you'd like to call them, CHOOSE and REQUEST to view our posts.

Regulating the REQUESTS of others to view your posts is unprofessional on Facebook's part.

If Facebook decided to do the same thing with ALL accounts, would you still be part of Facebook?

Facebook was just shooting for free for a while to build a portfolio, now they're ready to move on and start making money for all their hard work I have no problem with free for personal use and paid for commercial use.

I actually have no problem with that either; but they should allow friends, fans, etc. that request/like us to see our posts actually see them. The marketing charge should be if you want to reach those that do not request to see your posts.

I think balance. How many social networks do you want to get involved in?

You have to have a life away from business.
