Interesting bird attitude, although the eye blends in perhaps a bit too well for maximum effect.

Agreed. I did a bit of selective lightening to bring out the eye on the left. Just nothing really to work with on the right and this was the best of the series I took of this mean old bird.
I suppose I could go into CS5, enlarge the eye and perhaps lighten it a bit more.

Feel free to rework if you'd like.

Some tweaks to the eye in Photoshop, leaving the size the same. Some additional global tweaks.

Your comment gave me an idea, why not actually enlarge the eye?

...and perhaps a mid-tone bump to everything except the beak and comb and some lightening and sharpening of the eye....

Karen,
Looks good.
I didnt enlarge the eye for two reasons.
First. Not sure how. My PS skills are rudimentary. I thought I'd botch it.
Second. Hoped that brightening would do enough.
But, its better as you have presented it.
What tools did you use?
BTW, I have CS5

I used CS5. Haven't gotten around to getting CS6 yet.

I used the lasso tool and drew around the eye, including some feather area. The I used the Refine Edge Radius slider to make a nice selection edge. (Despite the temptation to use the "Feather" slider for the sake of irony, I resisted. The softening of the edge might have made the edge soft.) Then with the selection made I, I clicked on edit>transform>scale and nudged the corners of the scale box out slightly. Presto! Bigger eye.
