I usually hang out on the Mustangs air2air thread as I'm usually pointing my cameras at jets but with Richmond Park local to me I've been meaning to get out there early and photograph the Red Deer, especially during the rutting season. So yesterday I did just that, taking my D800 and 200-400 for a dawn walk. I'm quite happy with a few of the shots and completely hooked, hoping for another calm misty morning next weekend now!
both of these are really nice kev. i like the lighting in the first one, it is just perfect. i also like the sneaky crow in the shadows in the second one. looks like he's gonna come and land on the antlers!
The first is a fabulous image Kev. The bird in flight in the background of the second is special. The dear would stand out better had you taken a few steps to the left or right to avoid the tree as the background to the head.
Thanks for the kind comments everyone. Morris that's good advice on positioning myself to avoid the tree in the background, something to remember next time!
Another thing about #2 that would have made it even better would be to have positioned the deer closer to the right edge of the frame. Envision it, if you will, with its hindquarters fairly close to the right edge, and without the distraction of the trees - with the pose and lighting you got, it would be extraordinary. As it is, it's good. The lighting is excellent.
