Question about photobooth, with two 40in pop-up softbox umbrellas, how many people can I comfortably shoot against the backdrop?

More than you're going to see. I assume cross lighting?

Yes simple cross lightning, So is this ideal for this or I need bigger umbrellas?

It really depends on what you're trying to achieve. cross lighting with two small to medium umbrellas is safe (shadows) and easy. I've worked with 1 60" and that was great too. The last one I did, I used a medium softbox with a grid but I did have to watch shadows.

softbox + grid

60"

One 40in umbrella should be more than enough.... that is what I use and I have never had an issue with 8-12 people

Off topic, but I see photographers (amateur's and pro's) leaning back like this all the time when shooting, and I've never figured out why. You wouldn't catch a sniper holding a rifle like that. Just sayin...

Last I checked we are photographers and not snipers - just saying! Anyway, I tend to do this subconsciously for who knows what reasons. Crowded reception and don't want to accidentally step on someone's feet by stepping back? Too busy trying to compose a shot with my face glued to the camera to think and physically take a step back when all I need is that little bit of lean back to get it just the way I need the shot to be?

FWIW, this is not me in this photo, it's my old assistant.

I caught myself doing this same type of pose earlier this year. I pointed it out to my wife (my newer assistant). I told her I'm calling it "the photographers thrust". When I realized I was doing it, I was "fine tuning" a shot through a bush.

Are we still talking about photography?
