Experimenting with the JPG's from the 5D, I was a bit to see that a "Neutral" setting (all zeros) delivers dismal sharpness. Only at sharpness set at 3 or 4 do I feel sharpness is increased enough to call ooc shots to be acceptable.
Do you have similar experiences? I'd like to see what settings you prefer to use, realizing that this may change, depending on the subject.
FYI - I normally always shoot RAW (only, or RAW + JPG) and was trying to see how much "loss" there really is, using JPG.
try "faithful" for accurate colors / set sharpness to 4 or 5
you just have to tune setting to your liking. more like what you would process RAW to l look like
I would just use RAW -- create the JPG or PNG file from the RAW
I needed that sharpness setting for my old rebel and 5Dc. I agree 'loss' is a loose word here.
I use raw now and haven't bothered with jpg in a while since quick delivery of pro photos is not an issue.
Agree with above post. You'll have to tweek the settings if you plan to use jpg in camera.
Thanks people. My main concern was that I forgot how to MF *... my RAW's proved differently, but still. Coming from a 1Dc, the jpg's from the 5Dc proved to be a bit of a surprise. At least I know now that the camera is ok, and not malfunctioning.
* Sooooo sad a split-focus or prism is so hard to find...
Different bodies have anti-aliasing filters of different strengths, hence the different amount of sharpening required (either in-camera or in DPP or other software) to restore the image's original sharpness...
