...but I can't seem to get away from the GBH. I went looking for Linda's Anhinga today, but no luck finding it. All I saw were several GBH and 2 KFs. None of them were as close as I would have liked, but that did not stop me from shooting...
1) I didn't see this GBH until it took off, but the camera was already pointed in that direction, so it was not a hard shot.
2) It landed, stood there for a minute, and then picked up a large crappie - headless. So I'm guessing that either an eagle or Osprey dropped it for some reason, and the GBH found it.
4, 5, and 6) The KF came just close enough for a large crop. I have not decided how to crop it, so I did 2 versions. I like the first crop because the KF is larger. But I like the comp of the second shot more. The last image is full frame in case anyone wants to take a whack at cropping it.
A PROCESSING NOTE: If you have a solid blue sky bg with a few things in it that need to be cloned out, you can do it quicker if you make a color selection in PS for everything but what you want to keep, and then, in "blur", use "average" on the selection. That's what I did to the KF shot.
Exif attached, and as always, C&C appreciated ~ Ron
Very nice images, Ron. I guess that #1 is the stand-out for me as well, but I'd gladly take the kingfisher shots. They're definitely better than the kf shots i managed this morning.

Something about those GBHs Ron, I too have a million of them and keep telling myself I don't need more unless they are special but I still can't stop photographing them
Love the light on the herons and the feel to the shots, wish I was there For the KF I do like the second one with more space, I think it works better at the steepish angle
Dunno buddy, I too can't pass up on a good GBH shot, they are rewarding subjects to encounter. Nice work on that new 'auto-trac' gimbal rig you got hooked up, nice all you have to do is push the button
My fishing buddy would go nutz for that Crappie!!
Great set, Ron.. Glad you found something there but sorry you didn't see the Anhinga. I think it may have gone south Love the GBH. I never get sick of them, either. The KF is fantastic. I saw her a few times but only got one shot in the pouring rain (on that same tree). Great job shooting in a difficult location!
