p.1 #1 · 1D X: Yellow Banding

Hi all:

I got a 1D X yesterday and I noticed some very strange yellow banding across some test shots I took.

Have a look and let me know what you think. The lighting was fluorescent and the WB set to Auto.

Any ideas what's going on, or did I get a lemon?

Please tell me that, as the owner of a $6.7k camera, you know what this means.

Think about how fluorescent lights work, your shutter speed, and you'll have your answer.

I see that! Now we both look rude.

I'm not trying to be rude. Just jealous!

Not rude, just trying to get the OP to think first and maybe learn something. It's always easy to blame the gear.

Interesting...thanks guys. I guess learn something new everyday.

I stand corrected and very happy I didn't have to send this one back.

Lmfao.

Yeah, it's cycling lights. First time I seem it I thought my camera was busted too.

But it was an $800 30d, not a $6,800 1dx.

Reminds me of someone who bought a 5D2 on release date with a 50/1.2L without knowing the relation between aperture, shutter speed and ISO... or even knowing what they are.

Now... how many people came in here because they thought they had another opportunity to point out how Canon fked up yet again... and were disappointed?

yep that's the lighting for you, not the fault of the camera, although some show it more than others for same settings, perhaps due to the way various second or electronic curtains and read rates work perhaps

but nothing to worry about

I had a similar experience with my 1D X.... saw the color banding on the back of the LCD screen and thought... what the heck is that? Took me a second to recognize what was going on.

BUT, I was shooting super high ISO in a dark room only illuminated by my computer screen. Never been in light that low and had a shutter speed fast enough to get this problem from just the light of a computer screen!

It's a good problem to have.
