It is a very good monitor for the price (sort of the best 27" you can get, short of going to the "pro" $1500+ models).
One drawback is the 16:9 format ratio which might not be the best for a computer monitor. If you can get the 30" Ultrasharp U3011, that one is 16:10 and also slightly better screen (not by much though), but in the end the 27" model is great too and sometimes you can buy 2x U2711 for the price of one U3011.

Hi Lars,

Last week, I ordered a second U2711 to replace a Samsung 215TW that just gave up the ghost. I look forward to running a pair of U2711's.

The U2711 is a bit old now for the Anandtech forum (link below, look towards end of article), but it's still an excellent monitor. I found a comparison of the current Dell 30 and U2711 on http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews... After calibration, the U2711 had slightly better performance than the 30 in most/all categories. I really like the one I've been using for about a year, and so I bought another one. Finally, I'll have the same size screens on both sides.

Jim, thanks a lot. It will replace my Samsung 214T if I buy one. How is the panel? And do you calibrate it? If so, with what?
Thanks for the links also, very helpful

Lars

Lars,

The U2711 is great. It's very stable and consistent from corner to corner. Sort of like a 21/2.8 ZE or TS-E 24II.

I use a Spyder2Pro for calibration. I haven't used it yet on my new computer. Why is it that everything seems to fail at about the same time? First the computer, then my net extender, then the 215TW. Sigh.

I'll install the Spyder2Pro and cal both monitors when the new one arrives.

Jim

Jim, I just placed an order for the U2711 monitor. If the pics I'm posting next week looks strange, then I will blame you

Lars, I have the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 display adapter. It's a peach.

You can blame me for anything, but you'll have to catch me before you can do anything about it.

You will like it. I've been using one for 2 years now. The color and resolution are great. I used to calibrate my monitors with a 3rd party system, but I didn't like what the calibration did to my U2711. It has a built in calibration which I find very accurate. It is a very good photo monitor at a great price.

I bought mine back in July and have loved it ever since. There is a sheen of anti glare on it, but it does not bother me as much as some. I too used to use a Spyder Calibrator but I have found the sRGB and Adobe RGB calibrations that come "preinstalled" to be quite accurate.

I would not hesitate from recommending the monitor to you.

I have the U3011 and it is by far the best monitor I have ever used. There is a new 27 inch monitor by OverlordTempest which should be available soon.

http://www.overlordcomputer.com/overlord_tempest_X270OC_pixel_perfect_display_p/ot_x270oc_pp.htm

Same resolution and size as the Dell U2711, but $465 for the pre-screened pixel-perfect model.

Thanks everyone. I got the U 2711 five days ago. Very good quality. nd it gives me a bit more space when doing my PP in PS or LR.
I only wish that I had so good eyes that I could use the 2560 - 1440 resolution

Steve,

$799 to $849 is pretty much the sweet spot right now. We're lucky that we have a Microcenter here in town at 93rd and Metcalf. Microcenter almost always have U2711s in stock, along with the U2412M (I have one of each). The U2711 is $899 right now at Microcenter but if you find a better price online at a major retailer (Dell, BH, Adorama, Newegg, etc) they are very good about price matching.

I have new glasses. But no way I could work with that resolution. Do you have it like that? And work in PS and LR with those super tiny adjustments, panels and controls?

I'm very surprised the price is that high in the USA for this monitor. That's nearly the same price that I pay in Sweden including the 25% VAT (tax). Without tax the price in Sweden is about $ 640

Lars, yes, I use them at 2560 x 1440. It provides the best IQ. The small size of some fonts & controls is a tradeoff. There's no way I can use them effectively without good eye glasses.

Thanks Jim, that's imposible for me. Even when using new and good eye glasses. But two monitor's help me a lot when doing the PP in LR
