For some reason I tend to make images and then procrastinate on the post processing. Here's one from last April. Sunrise is a good time to shoot. A bit of rain in the distance can be good, too. Have fun.
I like the subject, and it has impact. It speaks to the emotions.
I like the crop and the fact that you left the shadows dark, but not black. The colors look fine to me in Safari. There does appear to be some noise in the lower right water. Maybe it's just granularity.
The dark area on the left side of the sun beam on the water looks too dark to me, sort of like it was brushed. I might lighten it just a bit.
Very nice. I especially like the black sky and foreground. The only suggestion I have involves the composition which seems too centered. I would consider cropping out about half of the black part of the sky and enough of the right side to leave the sun near the thirds position. I do like this as is but feel that cropping would make a stronger image.
Beautiful.
Your new view?
I agree that the shadow detail recovery, dialed in a tad as you have done, strengthens the image.
I might do a subtle play on the dark tones in the dark cloud at the top to give it slightly less uniform appearance.
I understand. I also know you often sacrifice the sky to attain a stronger comp. For this image I like the clouds and feel they add interest. I like my wide crop or even your original uncropped image better than the other crops. These choices often come back to personal preference.
To me, the star of the image is the hidden sun. (And yes, I meant that, too. )
BTW, the reason I chose the crop is the balance improves, to my eyes, by including the features on the right that visually balance the interest features in the silhouette features on the right. Hard to explain intuition.
