Looking to shoot reflection of snow capped mountain, hoping to catch early morning colors. Instead, it was fully covered with fog/clouds up in Mt Rainier.
I found some fresh wildflowers along this narrow walk.
See... I might not be in the majority but I like the shallow depth of field in the first. It adds to the feeling of wondering where the path might lead. Looks like a pretty natural - though dark - exposure on the second What an impressive scene!

Hi Mark and David, I don't think you guys are the majority. I don't shoot wide open for landscape photos, but I tried different this time and felt pretty good about the shallow DOF. I guess it's not for most others. Thanks for your comments.
Nice work on these. And while generally speaking we do like massive DOF, there are times when using limited DOF works. It's a nice change up to do. I like the little pathway in #1 also, very effective. Nice light in #2, I think that also works, the reflection is nice icing on the cake.

Well, for me No. 1 does not work. My eyes hunt for something to grab onto and find nothing due to the lack of DOF in the foreground and background. It also lacks any focal point, leaving me somewhat frustrated wandering about looking for something.
Maybe my eyes are just old fashioned and resist new concepts.
Hi Barry, Thanks for your nice comment, appreciated.

Hi Harry, I understand your frustration, apppreciate your critic.
I was thinking, had I photographed this scene with unlimited DOF, this would be just another post card scene at the best. When I took this photo, surrounding areas were quite a bit misty, fogged up. I saw this narrow pathway with imaginery S curve in the woods, also saw beautiful wildflowers...it was like dreaming. I tried to re-create what I saw with the shallowest DOF, as if I was in half asleep.
