Fwiw, my lens is sharp across all focal lengths and apertures. Love it.
Could you put up a 100% crop 24mm, f/8-f/11, from far left or right edge?
These beasts appear to be scarce, seems like only a scattering of stores got a few copies in to start.

I will shoot a brick wall for you tomorrow if I find one. Truth is, everything I've been shooting with this lens was (1) always at an extreme angle and (2) has extreme depth of field, thus not suitable for a lens test that you desire. The only shot that meets this requirement is a misfire from yesterday, an instance where the focus is on something that's actually in the corner. In all other shots the edge / corner is either at infinity while the rest is not, or vice versa (yes, shooting into a tunnel). I'm having a really hard time uploading it via my 3G hotspot from where I am right now, but I'll get back to you.

I missed the UPS on Friday. I can't decide whether to accept delivery now or not. Is the new lens sharp in the corners at f/8? The first version had so much field curvature the corners were never really sharp. I use the 24TSE II for 24 so if the distortion is less painful by 28 that would be sufficient.

talking f/8 (but other apertures too)
24 T&S II def looks better there in the corners
wow hmm the new 24 2.8 IS does too hmmm
but it looks pretty close to the 24 1.4 II they tested
def looks way better than the 24-105 at 24mm in the corners
the new 24 2.8 IS might be the least expensive way by far to get top landscape to the edges performance on FF
the 24 T&S II is prob the ultimate for landscapes overall though
despite MTF claims maybe the 24-70 II doesn't quite get there
that said it sure does worlds better over most of the range and aperture values than the 24-105 and to a lesser extent than the 24-70, it basically creams both of those anywhere near either lenses wide open aperture at all (f/5.6 and below) and even beats them, especially the 24-105, way stopped down on the very wide side
if you stop down to f/5.6 or more the 24 2.8 IS actually seems to outdo the 24 1.4 II, so it really is the best bargain for a top quality wide for FF
that said far corner doesn't also matter as much as far edge and far edge and far corner performance can differ and my results, for whatever, reason have not always matched those of TDP and larger distance, field curvature, etc. remains to be seen between them all
the 24-70 I doesn't do so badly on his test at the corners at f/8 even just up to only 28mm from 24mm and the 24-70 II looks even better there, like the 24 T&S and 24 2.8 IS almost and all of them demolish the 24-105, especially the primes and new one; letting the zooms do 28mm: 24 T&S II > 24-70 II > 24. 2.8 IS barely > 24 1.4 II barely > 24-70 I >>> 24-105
lettings them all do 24mm: 24 T&S II > 24 2.8 IS > 24 1.4 II barely > 24-70 II >> 24-70 I >>> 24-105 or something or other along those lines (all at f/8)
the 24-70 II seems quite sharp at his mid-frame position (whch is not really mid-frame but sort of a well upper mid-frame) ...Show more →
The Digital Picture test results are sometimes bizarre and do not match my experiences, so I take them with a few hungred grams of salt. The corners of the original 24-70/2.8 look better than I see in the real-world lens usage. I think the field curvature may vary with distance and the TDP results may be obtained at a closer distance where the lens is better.

I have uploaded two raw files that have something big, flat, boring, carefully placed at the left edge / corner, at f8.
Thanks!
Wow, looking good!
I'm impressed. I think I will be able to give up my 24 1.4 II for that. That looks way better than my Tamron 28-75 and way better than all three 24-105 I looked at, by miles compared to the 24-105s and better than 24-70 I samples I've seen.
I've never seen a zoom deliver that sort of performance below 35mm and maybe 70mm before on a FF.
You definitely got a good one there!
Wow that's really solid looking performance, wow.
While their sensor and body division seem to be out of touch (other than plopping more or less 1DX AF into the 5D3 which was brilliant), thank god their rather independent lens division still has the old Canon pride and is constantly bringing new tech out and breaking new barriers. Certainly can't fault then for what they are doing with lenses. Looks like yet another recent great one from them. They have been on a heck of a roll.

+1000
The quality/performance is definitely there, so the (somewhat) high prices are at least easier to swallow.
