p.2 #2 · FM Exclusive: 1DX does rare Pelagic pijun (the show has ended, sorry)
Thanx gents, glad you like what 1DX can do in combination with one great lens. I think Charles Pan was the first to identify the bird as Cooper's hawk, and Matt would perhaps agree.
At first I thought it was some sorta aquatic pijun, but now I am not so sure any longer.
The water depth there was about 6-8 ft I reckon, so the bird was fully afloat for sure.

I thought this camera was incapable of photographing birds because it didn't have a crop factor?!?! On top of that, it doesn't say Nikon on the front, ir anywhere else for that matter. This photo must be a figment of our imaginations....

Pijun? I was going to say I've never seen a duck like that in this neck of the woods.
Also love the sound of the 1DX. Certainly gives an impression of being very well built, solid and 'tight' in its mechanical functions. 12fps is really quite impressive and fun to shoot with.
Lovely images and even more impressive they're with the 300! How much of a crop?
As for the 200-400, one Olympic photographer commented over at sportsshooter that it is very sharp and very impressive. Hopefully this is the case! Also hoping it will not be over $10K...

Lol...seriously, nice photo!
Well, there is more to it. There is a rumour circulating on various fora that 1DX can not AF anything with a nominal aperture worse than f/5.6. Some day I hope to verify that one way or another.

Ron, about 40-50% crop.
OK, the show is over, onward we go, hopefully with some different kinda pijuns soon.

HI Peter,
Too bad I missed your Pelagic Pijuns (PP). I just flew in from Utah early this morning, and boy, are my arms tired... For future use, can you get photos of the incredibly rare Littoral Pijuns (LP) ?
Cheers, Jim
P.S. let me know when you post the LP's, so I can add something from my 1DX, which I picked up earlier today.

Arrghh. I'm a fairly loyal lurker on this board, but I almost always miss Peter's window. Can someone point me to a post where the method to his madness is discussed?

Here is a little special feature for my friends: a couple of images not shown before
These have not been post processed, just crop=enlarged. In fact, I do not plan to pp them either, as usual.

Thanx Jim, congratulations on your 1DX.
I got an idea, why not make a Canadian 1DX showcase picture thread in a week's time or so.
It would be you, Ron S., myself and perhaps someone else might be interested too. I'll be in touch.

Thanks for the exclusivity!
Lovely series Peter! Thanks for sharing.
Don't you think about that 200-400mm now!!!
Thanx, Fred.
The 200-400 would have to be similar in weight to 300 f/2.8 IS MkI before I'd be tempted.
Unfortunately, I do not think that is likely. 400 DO is not the sharpest knife in my drawer by a long shot, and obviously it doesn't zoom, yet it has some peerless qualities: relatively small and light......a joy to shoot with.
