Hello FM'ers!
I am not an avid user of filters... so my knowledge is limited.
I normally just use a B+W UV Haze for protection and to not reduce quality.
Im looking at buying a polarizer cause I do shoot a lot outdoors in bright light.
Ive seen so many side by side comparisons (w/ and w/out type) and it seems like they can help a lot.
Just wondering about which to buy that will not break the bank. Looking for a 77mm.
Any info on certain ones or in general would be great!
Thanks!
I'll second the multicoated Hoya vote, they aren't bad, and not too pricey. The B+W cpl filters are REALLY nice, buy I think they average about $60 more than the Hoya multicoated filters.
+1, I always post that link whenever I happen upon someone asking this question. Same goes for a UV filter recommendation. They bother to rank filters by both performance and cost.
Multicoated will prevent flaring and ghosting and some of the newer multicoated ones will even be easier to clean (keeping oil and water off). Highly recommended. I personally have witnessed a difference between Hoya and B+W, but I think it really depends on different shooting situations and you have to be really pixel peeping. Honestly, Hoyas are excellent for the money, but if you can afford it, the German companies are honestly better IMHO.
