This is a great shot. It makes a great minimalistic composition. It is because I really like it that I want to add some suggestions that will make it even better.
1st, level the horizon. It looks like the umbrella should be leaning to the right a little bit, which will make it more interesting. Also the shoreline will be more of a diagonal line, which is also a plus.
2nd, balance the composition by cropping in a little bit on the left side and top. This will move the umbrella a little more off-center.
3rd, give the image a little more tonal balance by having the umbrella shadow a little darker to match the dark sea.
4th, maybe back off some on the dark vignette. I prefer vignettes that are a little more subtle.
I know this isn’t the critique forum, but I think you have a very nice image here that deserves special attention.
Tom - thanks. as always good suggestions from you which I will play with. I'm badly jet lagged from the 34 hour trip home this weekend. Can't seem to travel like I did thirty years ago.
Joe - critiques are always welcomed, especially when they are this detailed and articulate. I did try the crop originally but kept coming back to this view. Somehow the umbrella seemed lonelier and more preposterous. The horizon is off and will be corrected. The vignette is an artifact from the conversion that I need to go back and understand, and I agree it should be fixed.
Scott, JaHarris and Greg: thanks very much for your comments.

SRudy-
I also really like your image.
The more I looked at it and read the comments, the more I felt the devil tempting me to fiddle with it.
So I fiddled .
The possibilities are many- and subjective. Here's what I came up with.
Let me know if you want me to pull it.

Nice job Charlie! Maybe I can just shoot and you can handle the post? That would make my life a lot easier.
