My EOS-1D X camera arrived a few weeks ago. I took it to Alaska and Canada for a real world wildlife photo shoot. Still trying to get used to the camera but my initial impression is favorable but with some criticism. You can read my article on the camera review and see more photos on the other FM thread.
By the way, my EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x lens arrived earlier this month. You can read my other FM thread below and my review as well.

Great photos. Love the breaching whales photos in your article. Did you take any pics of birds and BIF? Love to see them as well and I take it you are happy with the EOS-1D X but with some reservation ?

Interesting and informative article on the camera. It seems the 1D X is the premier camera for wildlife and sports but for those who are into landscape and portrait photography, how does the EOS-1D X compare to the EOS-5DK III in image quality and performance? Great wildlife pics, by the way. Glad I visited your website as well.

Good positive read Michael. Thanks.
A minor comment: In your features section, USB 3 was written, but I think Canon is still in the USB 2 phase, unfortunately, unless they upgraded since their brochure appeared.

Db.
You are probably right. I find little difference between 2.0 vs 3.0 anyway.

Hey Michael,
This is Bob Logan, I met you on the Diamond about a year ago. I'm the guitar player in the orchestra. I met you and Jules on the ship.
I'm with Jules on Grand right now and we just did some whale watching in Alaska.
Just thought I would say hi as Jules has mentioned you a lot. I have a 7D now and just got some pretty good shots of whales bubble feeding in Alaska.
Back when I met you, I was thinking about getting the 7D and after talking with you I finally made the purchase. Thanks for your insight and maybe we will run into each other again in the future.

In what way so you find little difference? On my computers I can get 100-110 MB/s USB 3 vs 25-30MB/s USB 2 just on my card readers.
I always use a card reader to download my images to the computer but noticed little difference in speed between USB 2.0 and 3.0, especially with a large card, >32 GB.

If your CF cards aren't UDMA 7 and if you card reader doesn't support UDMA 7 you will not see much difference between plugging into USB 3 or USB 2

Great review of the camera and lens but if I could offer a comment about your web site.... that white text on black background on your web site is messing with my eyes.
An optical illusion of some sort, minutes later I'm still seeing images.... very disconcerting.

Thanks for pointing out the details but I am using UDMA 7 cards and USB 3.0 reader and still notice little difference. I have been guilty of impatience. Just go get a drink and come back in about 10-15 minutes.

Hi Bob. Glad you like your Canon EOS-7D camera. The Mk II version should be coming out later this year and I can't wait to get my hands on one. It will be a great match for the EF 200-400mm f/4L 1.4x lens to get that extra reach.
