There are tons of new features and custom settings.
What would be your most useful settings? And why?
In addition, do you use AE/AF button by default or custom setting?
I often use AF-On button, but wonder do I have to hit AE/AF to lock the exposure first and then AF-On or when I hit the shutter button the camera will take exposure meter at that time, no need to use AE/AF.
Sorry I do most product photography, these features are kind of new to me.
I use AF back button rather than the shutter 1/2 press method; use FN for level; use the Preview button for spot metering; and I'm haven't decided what to do with the AE button, like Kitty I don't use it.
Just curious: how does the camera's meter system work when you use AF-On button and shoot?
Normally, with the half way shutter button pressed, the camera will meter, lock exposure and focus at the same time.
And there are several ways, AF system works: Auto, D9, D21, D51, 3D....which one do you use?
All of these are new to me, there is nothing like it in my D2X.
This may be a stupid question, but does the D800 have settings like the Canon C1, C2, C3 where I can save custom settings? I'm still learning the Nikon system and may have missed this in the manual.
euronail: you can set it to lock metter on half press and focus on AF-On, so you can metter and focus on different spot.
you can also do that half press does nothing, AE lock locks the AE, AF On focuses and you can shoot as you want, but AE lock is for my small hands too far away and i use M mode most of the time, so use AE lock (over half press) only for Auto Iso
coresare: you can change your iso with the unused dial in A or S mode.
canongolfguy: no it doesnt, it have some sort of custom modes which are configurable over menu, but i never found it usefull.
i change many settings too often to even fit within 3 or so configuration positions.
