Who cares about a $ 50 coupon when it cost $ 6799. It's not like people will buy a lot of those because they gave you a 0,7% rebate
yeah I don't think $50 off on it says much
it doesn't mean too much to the store and it means they increase their volume
Yes, because 1DX is an abject failure of a camera (*), I see the demand for it petering to nothing presently, thus forcing Canon to reduce the price drastically to something like $1,899.
* (The camera can't AF at f/8, no 1.3 crop factor, only 18 puny MP, thereby making it unsuitable for all major areas of forumography.)

They are not flying off the shelves at my local camera shack here in Seattle either. They still had a nice pile as of yesterday. Stock looks the same as it did 2 weeks ago.
I am sorry that I could not get back and clarify things sooner as I was working all day and by not clarifying things further, I might have misled some of you into making conclusions that are not necessarily accurate.
The fact that Beach Camera has a $50 discount on 1DX is in NO way a reflection of the lack of success of this camera. It does not mean anything but a retailer who is trying to capture a portion of the market that might otherwise go to their competitor (…...and in many cases have their customers wait even longer with no sign of delivery anytime soon.)
So a $50 discount on 1DX does not equate to 1DX being a failure because if you use that logic you will have to assume 5D III is also a failure since they have the same discount on that camera as well!
Canonrumors just mentioned that Canon will likely release a FF camera with 35+ MP sensor sooner than later as I predicted months ago here on FM. Get ready to see the certainly the 5D III and also the 1Dx drop in prices when this happens.

And what about the other 50 cameras and lenses Canonrumors talked about. I have not seen any of those yet
Ah yes and the USD /Japanese Yen should be 110 but unfortunately the US Economie is in such low demand (bad focus and not Mega) that it is at 77.... :-)
You predicted huh ?. Are you the same 'retrofocus' that can't find D800 on sale ? Did you also invent the Internet ? .

Yes, right now it is nothing else than a rumor. But at least to me this specific one totally makes sense. I don't want to warm up why I stated in earlier posts when the 5D III came out, but Canon has to move fast now to cope with the competition especially in the area of the D800 which is a very successful camera. I expect that Canon announces something similar towards the end of this year.
You're assuming the new camera won't be a 1-series with an $8000 price tag.
I really think this idea that the D800 is some sort of game changer is a bit of a fantasy. I'm sure it's a great camera but that sort of resolution, as a "must have" feature, is really only appealing to a limited market. It's great for people who print very large, crop heavily or like big numbers without any real consideration as to whether or not they need that resolution (or their lenses and technique can make use of it).
There are many people here who have expressed a genuine need for that sort of resolution and I'm glad to see that their needs are finally being met - but I really can't see them as anything more than a vocal minority.
Yes, some people have moved from Canon to Nikon, but some have moved the other way. Given the cost and hassle of changing systems I don't think the numbers will be particularly significant. If Nikon substantially increase their market share relative to Canon then I believe Canon will react. However, if that happens I think it will have more to do with Nikon's current, aggressive marketing push than actual camera specifications.

Yes, I am assuming - and it is just my guess! - that a high MP full frame camera will be in line with the 5D series. Not sure how the current 5D III will appear then (another guess of mine is that it will not survive long after) but it is just unstoppable new technology which will make it into new products. An additional 1D series camera would not sell good enough in this current market for a price tag of more than $6K. And I believe that such new high MP 5D camera (or whatever it will be called) will sell by far better than the current 5D III. I disagree that demand for such camera just comes from a minority of people.
Not sure about the movement of people from Canon to Nikon and vice versa. Most often people are too vested in either system with lenses. But I see that many Canon users recently got additionally the D800 with one or two lenses. I don't know any Nikon user who additionally got the 5D III......I am convinced if Canon releases such high MP full frame camera soon, it is only because of the D800.
No matter what, those times are great for us consumers since prices will drop!

Yes indeed, the prices always drop: from obscene to merely outrageous, so that great times could be had by all who have multi thousand $$ budgets even for fairly ordinary gears.
