p.1 #1 · Epson 3800 clogged print head and maintenace cartridge issues
I have several magenta nozzles blocked in my Epson 3800 which causes banding in red parts of prints. I have been trying to unblock them for the last few days, no luck still. Currently the print head sits in the parking pad soaked with ammonia, but after a night spent there no success.
Tried cleaning the head using paper towel and ammonia like that: http://www.inkrepublic.com/KnowledgeBase/Unclog3800-3880.asp
No success still, but a lot of ink wasted in these wet towels, they suck a lot of ink from the print head. They are all black from ink and heavy after an hour or so.
Also, after the standard nozzle check and head cleaning the level of my maintenace cartridge drops for 5 or 6%! For example before the cleaning it shows 55% and after that it is only 49%. This is strange, as I do not remember sth like that happening before. Is it normal?
thanks

Had the same thing happen to not ONE, but TWO Epson R1800s. (actually, the yellows were clogging on me) On my third R1800, the roller guide pins started falling out. This was after about one year of use for each printer (used concurrently)
Same thing on my Epson 7800, lots of clogging, wasted ink trying to fix - luckily after 3-4 years of use.
Now... I'm back to Canon for all my printer needs. Twice as fast as the Epsons, minimal clogging that is fixed pretty easily. Currently using two iP9000Mk2's, 4x iP4600's and one 36" iP710.

I noticed the maint level in the 3880 varies. At one point I thought it was nearly full and then it was less full. I have an extra on hand but have not needed it yet. I've not had any cloggs that didn't clear with one or two cleaning passes. Before that I had the R2400 for five years and no problems either.
