Manually focused 50 f/1.2 @ 1.2 of course.

I will likely remove the black blob (above his head) prior to printing.

Neat gesture. Amazing that it is at f1.2 - his eyes are sharp, as the lips and left hand.

Yes I was thinking the same thing, but distance also matter how far he is away from subject, so it is possible

I was probably 7 feet away (slight crop on this image).

If you fill in http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html (5D, 50mm @ f/1.2) you will see it is quite possible to have face and hands in focus, if they are in the same focus plane. Nearly 6" of DOF, plenty..
