The first is clearly defined by what the hands are doing, In my opinion, the second needs clarification to help with the composition. Though I will admit, the hands are well defined and make a strong statement on their own.

I've been told that before, though honestly I like that aspect of it. The hands, the knife, the wood. It happens to be a man carving a totem-pole, but I don't know if I really need to push that aspect of it. I'll think about it and play around with the shot some more, thanks!

Half the time I don't understand the titles people use (nor does it matter that I don't ).
I simply react to the images.
And I think both of these are excellent!
