I was thinking of just including a full sized jpeg, but windows does funny things when shrinking the jpeg down to fit on the screen (like adds weird effects, like when you over sharpen in lightroom).
So, now I am thinking that maybe I will down sample to a more reasonable size like 12 megapixel 4200x2800 or maybe less.
I also include a low rez folder for sharing already done. I am just talking about the high res files I am recommending for printing.

Never had anyone ask if 6MP is enough, or that it sounds low, or anything like that. If they do, pretty easy to explain.
Very good to know. So how do you export them? you use lightroom? what settings if you don't mind. I would think, correct me if I'm wrong, resize to 6mp, change dpi to 300 (for some reason it defaults to 240), and don't apply any effects like sharpening.

I'm not using lightroom on this system so probably not much help there. I essentially batch resize to 3000px long side, at 300dpi. I don't sharpen these ones. I apply my standard sharpening to the 7x5 resized ones though, as they're ready-to-go.

We ended up giving them a DVD with 3000 Long edge 300ppi photos. And 800 Long Edge photos with our water mark on it for web sharing.
We also explained that if they wanted to print larger than 8x10 to just let us know and we could send them the file. We also explained why we down sampled the photos.
They seemed very happy about it!

Because I deliver...
1. high resolution wedding images
2. high resolution engagement images
3. optimized social networking images (now increased to 851px wide for FB cover & highlight size)
4. and an off-line gallery for the wedding and engagement separately
...all at once on two custom DVD's, I try to keep full res output to 3600L @ 300px @ 85 quality. This gives the client plenty for what they need to print and encourages that they come back to me for large custom products. It usually gives me around 1gb of "cushion" room on the disks. (total)

My middle package (I have 5, don't lecture me about that) offers "high res" files. Typically 1200mp. Enough to print 4x6's and sometimes 5x7's.
But, we always upgrade our clients, free of charge, to full res. Makes them feel loved, and we feel good about it.
I do, of course, include on their thumbdrive a folder of "full resolution" and a folder of "Facebook". Facebook images are typically 1200mp, but I'm considering taking it down to 1000 to discourage right-click save-as theft.

Of course, but some "labs" might not take them unless they hit 300ppi at that size. (this is generally NOT the case for clients, but for us pros) That's why I do 3600 @ 300.
