p.1 #1 · Smallest Diffuser for Alien Bees? (DIY an option)
Hello All! I have a slight dilemma.
I am doing a sort of photobooth thing for a friend's kids party. It's really informal so i'm not going for an extremely fancy setup or anything. But I do want the pictures to turn out ok.
For lighting all I have is an alienbees. The room that i'll be shoot in doesn't have enough space for my giant softbox. I was even thinking about doing it barebulb but was hoping there would be another option. Would just throwing nylon over the silver reflector it comes with be ok? Do you guys have any other suggestions?

Seems like a good excuse to buy a more managable size SB. The operations that shoot photos with Santa at shopping malls use a single med. SB, often on an WL1600 with the light attached to the counter, and the camera attached via super clamp to the stand. It's a KISS solution, but one that creates flattering, symmetrical patterns free of harsh shadows in the full face shots.

You don't need ultra soft lighting from a giant softbox. They're kids, not middle aged women in a boudoir setting. Try a small softbox or umbrella for a bit of harder/higher contrast lighting, or just bounce it off the ceiling with the 7" reflector that came with it.
