I've wondered a lot about the apparently shiny "polished" metallic-like surfaces on so many bugs. I gather that it's well-understood as due to optical interference effects rather than pigments or metal coatings. Yet these metallic-appearing surfaces seem so convincingly metallic...
I recently visited your flickr stream, and was most impressed by your photos of your granddaughter. She must be delightful to interact with as a grandparent.

Phil - yes the granddaughter is a great distraction but don't see her often enough ( Daughter lives in Cambridge)
