Yeah, I don't know why people want to have a specific thread for only one camera out of many in a system. It is exactly the same as having an NEX-7 thread. It starts a precedent so that we'd now have the 'NEX-7 image thred' the 'NEX-6 image thread' the 'NEX-5R image thread' the 'NEX-5N image thread' the 'NEX-F3 image thread' the 'Panasonic GH3 image thread' the 'Panasonic GX1 image thread', the 'Olympus E-PM2 image thread', the 'Olympus E-PL5 image thread'.....you get the point.

I have already asked Fred. Sorry to those who don't like it much, but the vote is 12-3 and 1 who wanted to make a new thread to succeed the two existing threads. The thing is that most of the action is around the E-M5 right now, so it won't be a lot of work to find those shots.

I agree with Jordan, this is like moving the NEX-7 to its own thread from the NEX thread, or moving the Leica M9 out of the M8/M9/X1 thread, or similar, it's a win for those who are only interested in that one camera, and a loss for everyone else.

Over time, the specialised threads tend to die off and go to the archives, whereas the general interest threads stick around.

I guess the equivalent would be a thread dedicated to the NEX-7 only which doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather see side by sides of the Pen series with the OM-D and other MFT cams. As for your vote counting half . . . we all have equal say!

NEX-7 does not deserve it's own thread.

5N does, though.

That's all I'm sayin'. I like the lens sample archives on POTN and the threads for individual cameras over there. Finding a particular amazing photo that you like, for ex., on the ZE thread here is just wayyyyy too frustrating! So for me, less busy threads are OK.

It has a downside though: with more threads, more are getting put into the archives due to the downward push.

Being able to tag threads or photos would be great.

Btw, Google is very good for searching FM. Just search like this:

I will go with the flow but I will repeat what I said about having little interest in looking at images from Sony, Fuji, Canon, Nikon and other cameras, period. The E-PL5 and E-PM2 are fine ... as they share the same sensor!

...? The OM-D Image thread posts are just getting merged to the Micro Four Thirds thread, nothing else is changing. There aren't that many users of the older cameras at this point, at least few active users, so it will likely mostly be the newer cameras anyway, plus maybe a few old favourites like the GH-2.

If, at the web sizes we're posting, you can actually tell the sensor differences between something like my GX1 and OMD, you are a far better man than I.

edit - Or are you reacting to someone's suggestion to merge *ALL* mirrorless into one thread? I say "no" to that also, but the m43 thread is fine IMO.

Frankly I think theres already too many different threads and usually not enough posts. And quite a bit of cross-posts, which I think are not needed.

Strongly against eliminating OM-D thread, either by merging or whatever. I have zero interest in anything m4/3 but OM-D. It is a unique camera and deserves its own thread. If you do not like a particular thread, just move on, no need to be a killjoy for those interested in it.

12-4.

I routinely ignore threads which don't interest me, that isn't the point here. The point is that the OM-D photos are *missing* from the MFT thread, for little good reason, or to put it another way: 12 of 16 people agree that these two threads should be one.

Pffft! I tried it:

site:fredmiranda.com that one cat picture that I really liked with awesome bokeh

... and guess what happened?? Yeah, picture tagging would be really nice. If Freddy's upload feature would let you add tags and then search by them, that would be GREAT.

I guess that works about as well as searching for:

that one cat picture that I really liked with awesome bokeh

on Google for those types of photos in general We are not dealing with a neural network here, just a keyword search. I find that I get good results by typing "Alternative", a word or two from the title of the thread if I recall, the author if I recall, and the subject of the photo.

And who gives you the right to vote in the first place!? 12 people? In a thread with 1600+ posts and 100+ thousand views? You guys are party crashers, thread-hijackers. You can't just come to someone's house and vote to move them out to your street, just because you think their lawns and gardens will make it look better.

Once again, you do not like the thread, ignore it. You are missing OM-D images, feel free to visit it.

Until you hijacked it, this was a thread with some of the best photography seen recently on these forums. OM-D seems to attract a certain type of photographers, those that seem primarily interested in beautiful photography, rather than shooting brick walls for testing, or compensating something with macho lenses.

Touché! You see some really great photography here - better than the images you see on some of the Canon, Nikon, and Alt DSLR threads with meaningless sharpness tests and nonsensical images of brick walls and such. It's like stepping into a photo gallery or exhibition. It's inspiring to all and reassuring to OM-D shooters!

This is one of the reasons why I stopped looking at the other threads - as they are loaded with inartistic and aesthetically-challenged images.

Cheeky and nice! Great work, Jordan!

This image should be cross-posted on the Oly 75 sharpness thread!

I was not talking about IQ and test pictures or "my OM-D camera is better than your other-MFT-brand camera" posts. I am not at all impressed by those kinds of images/posts. I am talking about aesthetically-pleasing and artistic images and there is no shortage of good images on the OM-D thread.

But all the images would continue to be posted in the m4/3 thread. Anyway, whether they merge or not, I'll keep posting images.
