Sure. I use the Canon STE-2 for that.

What I like about the STE-2 is that it also acts as a light-weight focus assist.

It's never given me any problems. And feather light mounted on the camera!

The STE-2 really comes in handy for the outdoor daytime shots. I have my assistant take the 580 off to the side for some fill flash.

Youngnuo's triggers are awesome and really cheap. Easy to use and without any issues.

No wires. good range.

My option would be to get Elinchrom skyport or PCB Cyber Sync. Both options are cheaper than Canon's ST-E2. They are also compatible with other strobes that you might later procure.

This is just based on my research for future purchase. As DmitriM said, the Youngnuo's are really cheap.

Phottix Strato and/or Strato II. Excelent quality for a reasonable price.

There are countless ways of doing this. The best way will depend on your exact usage. Care to give us a few more details?

Yongnuo is awesome for non-ETTL triggering. Hehehe triggered it by accident in a car the other day.... so yeah, it goes through walls and cars and has pretty awesome range.
