p.1 #1 · Didn't expect THIS! Bittern(um...Green Heron) in flight
So, I was photographing a Great Blue Heron fishing in a pond when I saw something in my peripheral vision. Fortunately I had a second camera not on a tripod and quickly got a couple of shots off. While not perfect, it was a first for me. I think I had seen one Bittern the year before for about 2 seconds and never got a shot of it...
Only 1 of the shots is even decent enough to post...
You just never know what's going to show up. (Even if it's not a Bittern but a Green Heron instead )

Thanks Ashley...I do think this is what brings us back...planning and getting the shot is great but the unexpected is what I enjoy most.

Thanks Kenny....I hope to get a better shot sometime but in the meantime this was a nice encounter.

Congrats on the first, Eric Bitterns are such cool birds. Glad you captured the moment.
Hard to tell based on angle, but could that be a least bittern? While it looks too big to be a least, it appears to have a bit more color than the American. I'm probably wrong, though.

Well, Eric, shooting suddenly from the hip (vertically) and getting such an excellent flight shot is quite impressive. Getting the "boid's" left eye in the shot like that helps also.
