The hammerkopf (hammerhead in Afrikaans) was standing motionless while watching for any little movement...good for it but not for me. These guys, compulsive nest builders, make nest 3.5-5 ft. across and heavy enough to support a person...it has been reported that people have been killed when a nest fell on them.

Is this the male or female of the species? With that large nest, they should have plenty space to raise a brood.

If the second image is a zoom-in shot, Eric, that guy/gal really DID hold still; it looks like a very sharp crop of the first.
Odd that they should build unnecessarily large nests. Wildlife seldom does anything that serves no purpose.

This bird has an interesting crest also. It's often easy to photograph but is ellusive at the nest. Nice pose with these. Don
