p.1 #1 · Quad Mom from Yellowstone. Another Griz with 4 cubs
In 2010 we were fortunate in being able to photograph the family refered to as the Quad Mom, a Grizzly sow with 4 cubs. We returned in the spring of 2011 when she had only two remaining. Sherry became locally simi-famous for the shots of the 4 in a row. These photos were taken above the golden gate. The shots from 2011 were taken in Swan Lake flats. The sun was wrong ect. In any case these photos compliment the set posted yesterday taken in Alaska. Hope you enjoy.

Another nice set Bob. The loss of 2 of the cubs reminds me of how tough life can be in nature. Several years ago a pair of Mallards had 12-15 little ones. As time passed, there were fewer and fewer babies. The last time I saw them, there were only two ~ Ron

First thanks to everyone for the comments. In answer to questions.
1- The distance was less than 50 yards. They were on a cliff at the top of the golden gate. The sighting only lasted a minute or so . Some of the shots were taken over the top of a camper that stopped going in the other direction. While too close it is unlikely that they would have tried ot get down the cliff and around the camper. We were stopped in the small pull out at the top of the falls.
2- Yes we have been very fortunate in photographing cubs, both bear and Lion. As well as kittens leopard and Cheetah. I'll post more cubs/.kittens in the future.
One must always be carefull in photographing young ones. From both a personal safety as well as to not disturb them. This sow and her cubs were just standing there looking at the traffic passing below. While we were taking this photo a ranger drove by and had no problem. It was over before a bear jam could form. We got lucky. The other photos were taken at a couple of hundred yards.
