I had no idea this colorful "garden" existed on the north side of my neighbors riverfront, cedar roofed gazebo until one day I noted some spots of red up there. I focused my 400mm lens on it and this is what's up there ... pretty fantastic scenery I think. This area is about 8 inches wide.

Very cool micro-landscape! We used to call the red caps "British soldiers" as kids. I haven't seen them in awhile.

That is a lot of moss and lichen on the roof Paul! The red reproductive bits add some nice brightness.

Thanks Guys ... Sure wish there was some way I could get above the roof. Pretty hard to get everything in focus shooting at an angle from the ground.

Its going to be a pretty unusual photo that gets turned in to an upcoming Northern Ill Forest preserve contest in the plant category.
