Thanks a lot everyone. I shot those with a monopod. Just wondering what would be a good support Monopod + ball head/gimbal head or tripod + gimbal head? Trying to decide this before I look for specific models. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Lots of people use a monopod without a head. You can easily turn it left and right or move the whole rig to tilt it up or down. I'd suggest a monopod head though. They are inexpensive because they only move up and down. For your 500mm lens a really sturdy tripod with a gimbal head is the way to go. Of course, some do use some type of rifle stock too.
