California ground squirrels are neat to watch, as they slither around on the sand beach, and dig for food. I have no idea how they can cope with all the sand in their eyes, and other places. These images were taken at Crystal Cove State Park south of LA. All were taken hand held with a Canon 7D and 400mm f5.6 lens.
These guys sure can be fun to watch, I always get a kick out of watching them when I visit. I like the first on the best Ken as it demonstrates how they slither around sometimes.

Don't you just hate it when sand gets up your nose? Very cute shots Kenny...squirrels are an under appreciated animal...except in winter when there is little else to photograph.

I love these! I am a sucker for the CGS antics. The second is my favorite - the expression is priceless. They look a little too contrasty on my monitor (but maybe its just my taste).
Thanks everyone for taking the time to view and comment! Greatly appreciated. As a bit of extra info, these were taken late in the afternoon, so the light was bright and direct. Wish the slithering shot was one where they don't even use their front feet, and just propel themselves along using the back one. Fun to watch.
