i'm needing to upgrade from aducity to a better multitrack audio program to put my field recordings over my photos to make a multimedia photoessay.. Do you have recommendations of programs that are 1- easy to use, and 2- enough people use them that there are tutorials online?
Audition is pretty easy to use and works well with other Adobe apps. I'm biased though as I had been using it since the Cool Edit days, which means I've been using it for something like 15 years.
But seriously, Audition is pretty easy to pick up, has a lot of nice features, and works well.
You didn't mention Mac or PC, but I'll guess its PC. If you have a Mac Garageband can handle the task, Logic if you're looking for a better interface and more features. Audition is a great program, its not too tough to learn and it can produce amazing results. Pro Tools is great too, a little steeper learning curve IMHO than Audition, but its used in lots of pro studios. You can get last years version (CS5 or PT9) dirt cheap. There's tons of demo vids on Youtube for any of them. Logic, Audition and Pro Tools are the big dogs in the audio world, I don't have any experience with any others but they're all very similar.
