p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · My all-time favorite flower pic, and it's in black and white! | |
So I took this picture with a 5D and the same 50mm f1.7 Pentax lens I was talking about in my post about bokeh (wide open, again). It was dusk and very low light at the time, and it was after quite a bit of rain, so there was this pink rose that had bent at the stalk and was hanging upside down.
At first, I processed the rose in color, but the colors were really muted because that's how the light was. I decided black and white was a better approach because it forces you to focus on the lovely texture and detail of the rose. And of course the black and white make for a more somber mood, accords well with the fact that the flower is hanging upside down. Plus, since the original green background was already so dark, it was quite easy to get the whole background black with minimal adjustments. Anyway, some of you might hate flower pics in black and white, and the vast majority of mine aren't in black and white, but for some reason this one did it for me. Hope someone else likes it too!
