Adobe just release ACR 7.4 with better de-mosaic algorithm for X-Trans sensors:

http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw7-4/?tabID=details#tabTop

Can someone give it a shot on CS6 and let us know how it works?

Not the greatest shot, but I had to test stuff out. My EOS and FD adapters arrived today, so now I've got a lot more lenses I can use on the X-E1. The Rokinon 85/1.4 was never very good on m4/3...the long-ish telephoto was sort of in no-mans land and the pixel density was just a little too much for the Rokinon to handle at wider apertures. Works very well on the X-E1, though, giving me a longer portrait prime (I've always preferred the FOV from a 135mm lens on FF to something like an 85)...this combo makes for a very nice shallow DOF combo for times I want it.

X-E1 + Rokinon 85/1.4 wide open:

Does this mean LR should be getting an update soon? That'd be awesome.

The Release Candidate is for both ACR and Lightroom. It expires on May 31st, so that usually means the actual update is released the same day.

Lightroom RC: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom4-4/

Installing now. DPReview has a comparison between ACR 7.3 and 7.4RC, as well as C1. I never liked the odd artifacts that C1 would generate due to overly aggressive sharpening and NR, and have generally preferred Lightroom for a more natural look. From DPReview's comparisons, it seems that the latest release candidate makes huge improvements with X-Trans, rendering an accurate, artifact-free file that looks very natural. Kudos to Adobe!

ACR 7.4 is definitely much better than ACR 7.3. Whether it's better than C1 or Silkypix is less clear and likely will come down to personal preference. It's great that Adobe has finally caught up......

For me, it's an absolutely HUGE improvement...brings the X-trans files in-line with the way ACR processes all other cameras, which to me looks very natural and non-digital. Just a giant leap in fine detail rendering and lack of artifacts.

Way to go Adobe...glad I held off buying C1....

I am re-posting the sunset photo that I posted several days ago (my first photo with my X-E1 with my Leica R 35-70 f4 Vario Elmar zoom lens). These were done quickly. The first was done through LR 4.3 and the second by LR 4.4.

You still need to pull down exposure a fair bit. You've blown the red channel pretty severely here...it may not be recoverable.

The image is underexposed and I didn't have time to use a reverse ND. I will post the original file as a JPEG. I don't have enough knowledge or experience at this point.

If you want to give it a shot, I would be interested in what you can do with this.

Rich
