I' looking at buying a mola Demi . Will I be able to adapt my profoto soft box speed ring or will I have to buy a profoto speed ring specific to the mola.

Thanks
Dan

You could adapt a speed ring, but it would be a bit of a waste. All you need is the speed ring insert. You can get inexpensive chromed steel ones like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Studio-Solutions-Softbox-Speedring/dp/B003EWKB3M

or go for an aluminium OEM one from Profoto:

Avoid this one, it is too loose

and the same with this one, it will fall off

Calumet have one that looks good, but I have never tried it

Here is a thread from a while back that discusses the same thing

I found the best one for the Demi was the creative light one. It's quite deep so mounts quite a bit onto the head which is good as the head has to take the weight of the Demi. I've bought cheaper speed rings but rebought the CL one and it's perfect.

The Calumet insert is sort of pricey but then I think empty Profoto boxes are $50. Anyway the Calumet insert works perfect. I use mine with A2/D4 heads and a 600B head. No problem with depth and actually zooming with it is interesting.

The one mention in Amazon doesn't fit the molas. I have that one from another beauty dish and there is no way to use the screws. the speedring insert is to wide.

The title of this thread -- "Mola and proof to speeding question" -- had me really scratching my head.

I used to use VASCAR, RADAR, or LASER for proof of speeding, but I suppose photography could work if you take multiple shots of the car moving across marks at measured distances.

Then I realized that there are serious typos in the thread title. Now it's not nearly as interesting.
