I had good luck with a wired remote shutter release off flea-bay for my 40D. They were $5 each including shipping and I bought 2 in case the first one broke but it never did. Can lightning strike twice? Is there a good, cheap wired remote for the 1d iii? Recommendations welcomed.
Thanks,

I tried one of the ebay jobs on my 5d and it made the IS on the lens spin up and never stop. The Canon remote is worth the $$ IMHO.
I got a wireless one for almost nothing on ebay for my 5D2 and it's been working great for over two years now.
Canon stuff is insanely over-priced and not.... remotely.... worth it IMO.

I have tried the Ebay specials. All of them have broken at the connector.
Bought 2 Canon ones & they have been in constant use for 2-3 years, no problems.
Definitely more expensive, but worth it.
Aputure is good. I've used it before. Got lost somewhere and I never replaced it. B&H has Vello as their house brand. I'm speaking from the Nikon (hack, gasp! Horror!) side, and Nikon jacks prices sky high, too.
