i am having 2 apsh-cameras (including 1D3) and recently purchased the 24L.
i bought it for everything below f2.8 (the new 2470 probably will be good enough from 2.8 upwards).
at the wide apertures, corner sharpness is not important (its more the background you choose).
but: the center sharpness at f1.4 is incredible. i was suprised. and the corner sharpness is absolutely acceptable (with accurate focussing).
at small apertures you will see tack sharp corners relativley early (around f2.8. ?)
no time to post examples, sorry.
just that: the 24L comes excellent on the 1D3, for many things (portrait, landscape, events, city-walks etc).

I have a 24mm MF lens (adapted) that I've been experimenting with and like the focal length on my 1d iii. I'm now considering the 24L and I'm curious about your experience shooting the Canon 24 1.4 ii on a 1.3 crop sensor. Sharp wide open? Please post shots at various apertures 'cause I'd love some real world results.
Thanks,
