I am looking for a small Canon P&S for about $200. This is for a family member who is not a photographer. It will realistically only be used in auto mode. RAW is not needed. I use the s100 when I don't want to bring my dSLR but this would be too much camera for them and out of their price range.
I am not really familiar with the other small canon P&S and would appreciate any recommendations.
Canon PowerShot 300HS. It has a 12.1mp backlit CMOS sensor that performs quite admirably at ISO 800 and even 1600. It has a useful 24-120mm (35mm equivalent) zoom, it easily fits into any pocket, and costs less than $200. It's sort of like a lite version of the S100.
+1 on the 300HS
My dad bought my mum a an ixus 230HS (310HS in the us I think) which is much the same .
She used it at an indoor event and I was most impressed with the results.
