OK, I just received a (new to me) 1D4. I have my 1D2's set up so that I see the image "count" in the folder in the viewfinder. This was C.Fn-08.

Where would I find the equivalent in my 1D4? I'm just not finding it in camera or in the manual.

Any help?

John

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but in the viewfinder at the bottom it indicates the number of shots remaining.

Maybe not everyone is familiar with the 1D2 CFn8.

Brand new card, folder 100EOS1D, I see "0" in the viewfinder. After one shot, it now says 1. After 24 more shots, it says "25".

I now switch folders. The counter says "0" in the viewfinder again since there are 0 shots in the current folder.

I loved this as it allowed me to shoot quickly, and if I missed focus on a shot, glance at the number, and now I know which one to delete. I shoot 90 shots, and shots 34, 36, and 85 were OOF. I could do a quick review (which starts showing my #90), then scroll back to 85, delete (since the review is telling me 85/90), scroll back to 36 (display says 36/89) and delete, then scroll to 34 (34/88) and delete. I now have 87 good shots and can switch folders.

I used this A LOT. I can't seem to get the same functionality in my Mark IV.

I use that quite a bit on my MkIIn, but unfortunately, it's not available on the mkIII or mkIV

So 1D IV is a case of 99 steps forward, 1 step back

Whilst a nice feature you won't miss for long it once you start shooting with the 1D IV.

ARGH! That's quite annoying. It was EXTREMELY handy.

Now I need to write Canon and have them add it back in firmware 1.1.1.

Good luck with that.

I mean the 1D IV doesn't even have audio level control for video and after all the effort it took to get them to add it to 5d II, you would think it would become standard feature on a 1 series.
