This is no revelation for those who own it but, holy crap! The 70-200 2.8 II is an astoundingly good lens! I got a chance to shoot with one yesterday capturing some local volunteers and was stunned at the image quality when I looked at the files. I'm not allowed to post the people shots but here's one quick shot from the day, wide open at 200mm, ISO 400, 1/80. I've decided I want in 'the club' and as a result I will post a link in the next couple of days to an on-line auction for one of my kidneys in order to raise funds to purchase.
The jpeg does not do this justice but at full size, wow!
Got mine today along with a 5dmkII. I compared my "sharp" original 70-200 2.8 IS and was surprised at the amount of difference between the two lenses. Getting the 5d and the lens together saved me $400 on the lens!!! I wouldn't have gotten it if it wasn't for the rebate.
That's the hope! Now my wife says I need to keep both kidneys, something about my long term health, what if the kids ever need one, blah, blah, blah...
You are correct. When you first get your own, you may be amazed. After you use it a while and see what it can really do you wonder what took so long and why your other lenses don't do as well.
