p.1 #1 · First Time Using Studio/Studio Lighting

Greetings all. This is also my FIRST POST. Please take it easy on me! haha. I am new to studio photography and have a passion for portraiture. I usually work outdoors in natural lighting, but with crappy Pittsburgh weather, I've realized it's time to broaden my skills. Below are photos that I have taken with a 430ex through a white umbrella with white paper background. Subjects are local musicians/producers who are my studio neighbors. Enjoy!

1 - Cool, think I would prefer BW or more sepia tone.
2 - Just say no to selective color.
3 - See 1
4 - Very nice.

Thanks man. #2 was a client request...I am going to re-do it without the bracelet, just tattoos.

Good first studio work. I agree re: saying no to selective color, but hard to say no to a client. I background light to clean up the tones on seamless (particularly 3 and 4) would help a lot. Otherwise brighten is in PS.

Thanks Brett. I'll play around with the background lights a bit. I still have yet to experiment with a black background. That's happening tomorrow and I'll be sure to share.

Have to agree...that is why I have the following bumper sticker.

"Friends don't let friends use selective coloring".

As photographers we might not care for selective color, but clients eat that sh!t up. If they're paying for it, I'm going to give it to them.
