p.1 #1 · Another couple of Red Kites

It would seem that 2011 was a good breeding year for Red Kites. There are a lot more of them around than this time last year

Fine shots Graeme. Red Kites have been re-introduced very close to me here in Central Scotland. They are beautiful birds. It's amazing to watch them steer with their tails. Thanks for sharing these.

Great pics Graeme.
We only get Black Kites here in Switzerland and its harder to see the under-wing detail that you got here.
Martin.

David/Martin, thanks for your comments. I used to see the odd Red Kite around the M40 corridor when I lived in Banbury and travelled alot. I'm now very fortunate to live on the Berks/Bucks border near areas where there are quite a few large populations. I've seen some very sizeable groups (up to a dozen birds) in the last few weeks with a lot of 'playfulness' going on. I'm guessing it's approaching breeding season and the males are sizing each other up and trying to impress potential mates.

I've also spotted the odd Kestrel and Sparrowhawk lately - alas no pictures though....
