I am a Texas boy, and I really appreciate seeing these shots...I want to make a trip to Florida to shoot birds and some landscapes...where the heck do I go? any books I should get before my trip that suggest places to go? any info I would appreciate?
Thanks again, folks. The timing and location for the sunrise was assisted greatly by Photographer's Ephemeris. I used the PC version to find a good general location, and when I got there, used the Android version to identify a grove a trees that would look good in front of the sun, and determine where to be when the sun came up. When the sun actually rose I only had to move about 10 feet to get the silhouette I wanted.
Les, I do most of my research on the internet. Start with the Florida State Parks. Florida has one of the best-developed state park system in the country, and you can see and appreciate a lot of Florida just by sticking with those. The state park web sites provide a lot of information. If you are in south Florida, Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, and Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park offer lots of bird and landscape opportunities. There is also Key Biscayne NP and Dry Tortugas (accessible only by boat shuttle), but I haven't been to either.
Dave, great shots, I like #1 & #3 the best. i'm in naples and shoot regularly in the Big Cypress and the Fakahatchee, let me know the next time your coming to town. Can relate to the "real world issues thing". By the way the park in miami is Biscayne National Preserve, Key Biscayne is the island that it is just off of it, spent 40 years living on Key Biscayne.
Your wife is lucky the tree didn't kill her, hope you had plenty of homeowners insurance.
take care.

Outstanding series. The first 3 are just awesome. Really hard to pick a favorite between 1 and 2. I really love the lighting and contrasts in 2 but the overall balance of 1 is pretty tough to beat!
