I am much more excited about this lens than the new 24-70L 2 !
I"ve had the Tamron 28-75mm for years & it's an amazing performer, the weather sealing is excellent, shooting in the rain while zooming in and out.. and such. the sharpness is also very good. lens is also much smaller and lighter than the canon version..
Since I"ve moved to FF I"ve missed my 17-55 2.8 IS, now there is finally a full frame alternative
the only advantage I see in the canon new lens is extreme sexyness and internal zoom. although the IS(VC) beats both
I've owned the 28-75 for 5 years now and it's a pretty darn good lens. I had always seen the 24-70L as my future upgrade path, though. If this new tamron can improve on the old one it will definitely be hard not to go for that one.

I'm curious about the price. The next couple of weeks should be very interesting.
I dont expect the Tamron to be a bargain. I hope they do make it a decent price . but when you consider the other options for a 2.8 standard zoom (in any of the main systems) they are all expensive.
My gut says the Tamron will prices around the cost of the 24-105L . so UK price about £1k
