p.1 #1 · New standard zoom with stabilization: Tamron 24-70/2.8 VC USM
After Tokina announced its 70-200/4 now Tamron is launching a 24-70/2.8 VC lens... An impressive feature is the huge 82mm filter thread! Since 28-75/2.8 is a steal for the money I expect this lens to be even better optically. Hopefully the AF will be better too.

It was only a mater of time. I figured Sigma would be first to offer and FX standard zoom with stabilization, but way to go Tamron, way to be cutting edge Nikon and Canon
Though admittedly Nikon doesn't even offer a DX f/2.8 standard zoom with VR. Canon's is quite good though (build wise not so much).

I am very interested!!!
I use 28-75 2.8 (to replace AF 24-85 2.8 D) and impressed by its quality and size/weight and price, but 28mm is not wide enough at times so I really can't travel without taking a 16-35 VR.
but I wouldn't call 82mm filter "impressive".
Nikon keeps increasing price recently...sometimes really difficult justify the premium over other brands (not just Sigma/Tokina/Tamron but also Canon/Sony equivalent lens on their own bodies) .

Yeah, I know hat you mind... the cost of filters is high and the filters are quite unusual... only Zeiss Distagon 21/2.8 and Sigma 20/1.8 are coming to my mind with similar 82mm threads. But when I referred as "impressive" I considered that a large filter like this may be dictate by a huge front element which probably lead to an better quality of the transmitted light...

Im quite interested in this lens too, might decided to sell my nikkor 24-70 if this lens will do the job almost as well. Tamron does have good optics, but im iffy on the AF. Price point too...hmm probably around the price of the 70-200

I have lots of 77mm filters, some are rather expensive like Nikon CPL2, Canon 500D, Singhray BG Polarizer... it would be very expensive to buy them again in 82mm (not sure they are available in that size too).
I don't worry about 82mm UV filter.

Ditto Sigma 100-300/4, Sigma 24-70 (even the non-HSM), Tokina 17-35 and a boatload of stuff on the Canon side of life. But I guess it's a pretty odd size for the Nikon owners.
