p.1 #1 · Any Danger of Metal Hot Shoes with 580EX II?

Is there any danger with using a metal shoe like this with a 580EXII connected to the PC socket of a camera? I would imagine that when the flash is in manual mode, the extra contacts on the flash are disabled and would eliminate any possibility of a contact-short. Does anyone have any info on this?

I think the other contacts are for communication and are most likely buffered to protect it from harm if shorted.

If you're worried, I would cut then glue plastic(screen protector) to the hotshoe with a small hole for the trigger pin.
