Thank you all. it looks like the 50 1.2 would be the choice for what I want right now. I know eventually I will get an 85 1.2 it's just part of my radar but already having the 85 1.8 and the 24-105L I wanted something new as far as range and I think the 50 1.2 would do just fine It's hard to pass the 85 1.2 at $1800 from B&H with the discount. decisions, decisions.
The 35L I haven't even been considering why would you guys recommend the 35? thanks in advance.
I have been using the following lenses on 5D for my sons photos:
1) 135 f2
2) 35 f2
3) others ( 85 1.8, 24-105, 50 1.2)
I was almost exclusively using 135 f2 since it was my "best" lens till I put on 35 f2 one day and really liked the "intimate" perspective that it offered. Another benefit, its small and relatively inexpensive that I took it on hikes and long walk. (and the kiddo will grab the lens once in a while and "play" with it. Lucky for me, my son used to enjoy the lens cap a lot more than the lens itself)
I have not tried the 85 1.2 or 50 1.2 so cannot speak how they compare. But I have often heard that 85 1.2 is slower to focus. Also, more often than not, you would not want to shoot at f1.2 for a toddler as that would severely restrict your DOF, something to consider.
